Allegan Speak Up!

Created in 2020 during the height of the first wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic and in the wake of the brutal murder of George Floyd, 4 residents of Allegan City banded together. They were dissatisfied with the silence from their community on the social matters at hand and wouldn't stand for it one moment longer. The four of them scrambled up some posters, made a facebook event, and called on the public to come support the Black Lives Matter movement and show the world that Allegan will not be quiet when it comes to racism and police brutality!

From there it was obvious that Allegan Speak Up was needed within Allegan County. There were so many social issues that the community was aching to join in the fight for a solution. The four founders began holding meetings open to the public on the last Tuesday of every month at 6pm in the Allegan District Library discussing the obstacles people in our country were facing and how everyone could work together to make a difference.

Since then, the group has grown and hosted several community events such as Allegan's very own Pride Celebration, Allegan's first Women's Empowerment Event, and many more!
